How to explain a tradeoff clearly at work

Explain what improves, what gets worse and which decision the listener needs to make without presenting one option as cost-free.

A tradeoff is clearer when both sides are audible in the same explanation. Say what improves, what it costs, and what decision follows.

Example

Option B keeps the launch date, but it adds manual reconciliation for the first week. Option C removes that manual step, but moves the launch by three days. I recommend B if schedule is the priority.

Do not spend two minutes describing one option and mention its downside as an afterthought.

Rehearse the contrast

Use gain → cost → decision. Record the explanation once and ask whether a listener could repeat both sides of the tradeoff. Then try again with different wording.

A polished delivery should not make one side disappear. If the evidence is uncertain, say that separately rather than dressing it up as a clean tradeoff.
